About Us

Krain & Associates is a full-service consulting firm specializing in human resource solutions and industrial/organizational psychology. At Krain & Associates, we have applied our extensive experience and skills to developing executive talent through the use of measurement techniques that identify the strengths and weaknesses of individuals within their organizational context.

Based on competency profiles, we are able to pinpoint proficiency areas where further development will enchance career growth and bottom-line productivity.

By going beyond diagnostic assessment, we work with our clients in providing consturctive feedback about areas where career enhancement is both possible and realistic.

Feedback in the form of individual development plans allows executives to use their information in ways that will promote and advance their career goals.

Previous work included projects for the U.S. Department of Defense, Environmental Protection Agency, and the Forest Service, the cities of Detroit and Toledo; Colleges & Universities including Cardean University, College of Lake County, and Chapman University; the Institute for Psychological Services, the Railroad Retirement Board, and the Related Group, a real estate conglomerate.

Who we are

Burt F. Krain, Ph.D., Principal Consultant, Founder & Chief Executive Officer
Burt Krain is an industrial/organizational psychologist with over three decades of experience in executive assessment and career development.  A licensed clinical psychologist and certified performance technologist, he has worked with both public and private sectors identifying competencies that lead to successful performance at executive and managerial levels. He has taught at a variety of colleges and universities across the Midwest for over 30 years.

With extensive experience designing and conducting executive assessment centers, he has developed executive profiles of entrepreneurial leaders in a multitude of organizations.  He is considered by his peers to be an expert in human appraisal techniques and is the Navy's Chief Scientist for Competency Management.

He obtained his Doctorate in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Burt is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychological Specialties and a member of the Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychology.  He earned recognition as a Certified Performance Technologist from the International Society for Performance Improvement and a Certificate in Performance Improvement from the American Society of Training & Development.

Burt has used performance improvement techniques to assist businesses in identifying bottom-line performance measures as metrics of success, increasing the client's return-on-investment.

Melissa Hart, M.A.  Senior Associate & Statistician 
Melissa is a doctoral candidate in industrial/organizational psychology at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where she received her Master's degree.  She received her undergraduate degree from Loyola University in Chicago.

Melissa's areas of concentration are leadership, organzational behavior, internet surveys, and change management.

Sofiya Velgach, M.A.  Senior Associate and Statistician
Sofiya is completing her doctoral degree in industrial/organizational psychology at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where she received her Master's degree.  She received her undergraduate degree from Loyola University in Chicago.

Sofiya's areas of concentration are work-family conflict, organizational behavior, change management, and training.  She also has specialized expertise in statistics and tests and measurements.  She specializes in survey development and impact evaluation.  She has expertise in pscyhometrics.

Kimberly-Lawton Schulte, Senior Associate
Kimberly is completing her Masters degree in psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.  Her areas of expertise are clinical and counseling psychology and retirement planning.  She has studied extensively in the areas of vocational counseling and leisure time counseling.
